HISA Approved Barrier Free Shower for Anthony

This recent bathroom remodel was a full-scale transformation—removing outdated elements and rebuilding a modern, accessible shower space designed with safety and long-term comfort in mind.

The project began with comprehensive demolition. The team removed the existing shower pan, tub, marble wall panels, glass doors, pony wall, and surrounding tile. All debris was carefully hauled away, and special care was taken to protect the home using a HEPA dust collection system, plastic coverings for the master bedroom, bathroom floor, and walkways to ensure a clean workspace.

Next came the plumbing updates. The old plumbing was capped, the pee trap relocated, and the floor concrete chipped out to accommodate the new configuration. A new trap was installed, and all voids were filled and re-sealed with concrete.

With the foundation set, walls were prepped with moisture-resistant greenboard and new plywood backing. Insulation was added along exterior walls for energy efficiency and sound control. Backing was installed throughout to support future fixtures like glass panels, grab bars, and the fold-down teak shower seat.

The new barrier-free acrylic shower pan was installed, perfectly leveled, and paired with a two-wall acrylic surround in a crisp white subway tile pattern. Trim was added around the perimeter using FRP for a seamless finish. All joints were sealed with high-quality silicone for long-lasting durability.

To elevate the look and functionality of the space, mosaic travertine tile flooring was installed, blending natural beauty with slip-resistant safety. The new chrome shower system, featuring both a standard shower head and handheld wand, added convenience and style.

Accessories included two chrome corner shelves, two grab bars, and a space-saving folding teak shower seat—all securely mounted to pre-installed ADA-compliant backing. A custom frameless glass enclosure will complete the space once it arrives, providing a polished, open look with easy entry.

Drywall repairs were completed both inside and outside the shower area, including matching the existing texture near the toilet and behind the shower. Baseboards were replaced where needed and caulked for a clean finish. All tile was prepped, grouted, and sealed, and the entire space was thoroughly cleaned.

To conclude, the shower was tested, caulked, and siliconed for optimal performance, ensuring it’s fully ready for everyday use.
