HISA Approved Barrier Free Shower for Tasha

Dec 27, 2024

Our team embarked on a bathroom transformation project aimed at creating a sleek, accessible, and functional barrier-free shower for the client. Here’s a detailed look at how the project came together, step by step.

Demolition and Preparation

The project began with careful demolition of the existing bathroom fixtures. The team removed the old tub, surround, and valve, ensuring that all debris was properly hauled away. To minimize dust and maintain a clean working environment, a HEPA dust collection system was used, keeping the home as dust-free as possible during the entire process.

Creating the Barrier-Free Shower

Next, we prepped the walls with moisture-resistant greenboard to ensure durability and protection against water damage. To support future additions, we installed backing for grab bars. The centerpiece of the new shower was a white 42 x 60 composite stone slip-resistant shower pan, which was installed with great care. To ensure everything functioned perfectly, we relocated the drain to accommodate the new pan.

An innovative collapsible foam threshold was added to help retain water inside the shower. Additionally, a shower curtain clip was installed for extra convenience. The entire area was surrounded by a stunning 3-wall acrylic shower surround, featuring a beautiful white base with elegant grey marbling. Every joint and seam was meticulously sealed to prevent any leaks.

Modern Shower Valve and Features

For the shower valve, we chose the Moen Adler Posi-Temp valve, known for its reliability and easy temperature control. The new valve was installed with a brushed nickel Moen shower head and handheld wand, offering the client both style and functionality.

Grab Bars for Added Safety

As part of our commitment to accessibility, we installed two Moen Designer Series grab bars. These 24-inch brushed nickel bars were mounted using an ADA-compliant system for maximum safety and support. Backing was carefully placed behind the walls to ensure the grab bars were securely anchored, providing peace of mind to the client.

Additional Features for Comfort and Convenience

To further enhance the shower’s functionality, two metal corner shelves were installed at the client’s preferred locations, perfect for storing toiletries. A teak floating shower seat, complete with sturdy 2×6 backing, was also installed to provide comfort and convenience during showers.

Special Veteran Discount

As a token of gratitude for the client’s service, we offered a special veteran discount. This generous discount helped the client save on the installation of the teak floating seat, making the project even more affordable and rewarding.

Elegant Shower Door

To complete the transformation, we installed a sleek Kohler sliding glass shower door. The clear glass enclosure, finished in brushed nickel, added an elegant touch to the bathroom. The inside of the glass was treated with a spot-resistant coating, helping to maintain a clean, clear view. We still recommend using a squeegee after each shower to keep the glass sparkling.

The Finished Product

The end result is a beautiful, functional, and accessible shower that meets the client’s needs while enhancing the overall aesthetic of the bathroom. The new barrier-free shower provides easy access, comfort, and safety, making it a perfect fit for the client’s lifestyle. The careful selection of materials, modern fixtures, and attention to detail ensured that the project not only met but exceeded expectations.
