Embarking on a bathroom remodel can feel like a challenging task, but the rewards of a refreshed and functional space are well worth the effort. Recently, we had the privilege of working on a full bathroom renovation, and we’re excited to share the journey and the transformation that took place—from the first step of demolition to the final touches.
The Starting Point: Demolition and Preparation
Every great remodel begins with taking the old out to make way for the new, and that’s exactly what we did. The old fixtures and materials were carefully removed, including the shower pan, tub, surround, valve, and glass doors. We took the extra step of hauling away all debris to ensure the space was clear for the next phase of the remodel.
To ensure the comfort of our clients throughout the demolition, we used a HEPA dust collection system, which dramatically reduced dust and kept the home as clean as possible. We know how disruptive renovations can be, so we made sure to handle every aspect of the demolition with precision and care.
Creating a Modern and Accessible Shower Space
One of the focal points of this remodel was the installation of a barrier-free acrylic shower, designed not only for beauty but also for accessibility. The goal was to create a space that was not just stylish but functional for everyone, including those with mobility challenges.
The shower walls were prepped with moisture-resistant greenboard, ensuring the integrity of the walls against water damage for years to come. In addition, we installed backing for grab bars—an important detail that we didn’t overlook. After all, safety is just as important as style.
The sleek, slip-resistant composite stone shower pan was carefully installed, and the drain was relocated to accommodate the new setup. This step was crucial in ensuring the shower functioned seamlessly, with water draining properly and no issues down the line. The installation of a 3-wall acrylic surround with elegant grey veining turned the shower into a true centerpiece. Once everything was in place, we sealed the joints and the pan, securing it all for long-term durability.
Showering in Style: The New Fixtures
To complete the new shower design, we chose a rain shower unit and a handheld wand, offering a luxurious shower experience that feels like a spa every day. The brushed nickel finish adds a sleek, modern touch, tying into the overall aesthetic of the room.
We didn’t stop there. Two ADA-compliant grab bars were strategically placed to provide safety and stability, making sure that the shower was not only beautiful but also accessible. Behind the walls, we installed the necessary backing to support the grab bars securely.
And to add that final touch of luxury, a floating teak shower seat was installed, adding both warmth and functionality to the shower. It’s the perfect place to sit back and relax, or for extra convenience while getting ready in the morning.
Sliding Glass Shower Door: The Finishing Touch
A glass shower door can completely change the feel of a bathroom, and this installation was no exception. We went with a sliding glass shower door for its sleek, modern look and practical functionality. The brushed nickel frame complements the other fixtures in the room, and the clear glass opens up the space, creating the illusion of a larger area. To make cleaning easier, we applied a spot-resistant coating to the inside of the glass—though we still recommend using a squeegee to keep the glass sparkling clean.
Upgrading the Toilet: A Comfortable and Accessible Option
For many homeowners, the toilet is one of the most important aspects of a bathroom remodel. In this project, we installed an ADA-height toilet, which not only provides a more comfortable seat but also makes it easier to use for those with mobility concerns. With its soft-close lid and dual-flush mechanism, it offers both style and efficiency.
Vanity Installation: Moving Plumbing and Installing New Fixtures
The next step in our journey was installing a brand-new vanity. The plumbing had to be adjusted to accommodate the new design, and we were happy to do so, ensuring that the vanity fit perfectly and provided ample storage. The vanity was installed with updated feed lines and angle stops to ensure the best performance and longevity.
The Little Details: Sink Faucet, Vanity Light, and LED Mirror
No remodel is complete without the right finishing touches, and this project was no exception. We selected a modern sink faucet that complemented the rest of the design, adding a sleek and functional touch to the vanity area.
We also upgraded the lighting in the room. A new vanity light was installed to ensure optimal illumination. The best part? We custom positioned the light to maximize brightness and enhance the overall feel of the bathroom.
Finally, an LED lighted mirror was placed in the primary bathroom, offering both practical lighting and a modern touch. It’s a simple, yet stunning detail that elevates the entire space.
The Transformation Complete
After several weeks of careful planning, ordering materials, and dedicated installation, the bathroom was finally complete. The once outdated, cramped space had been transformed into a beautiful, functional, and accessible room. From the barrier-free shower to the elegant vanity and everything in between, every detail was chosen to enhance both the beauty and the practicality of the space.
The process might seem overwhelming at first, but with careful planning and expert craftsmanship, you can achieve a bathroom that fits your needs and exceeds your expectations.
