HISA Barrier Free Accessible Shower for Larry

Apr 26, 2025

Sometimes, the biggest transformations come from thoughtful simplicity. In this recent remodel, the goal was to create a safer, more accessible shower without sacrificing warmth and style.

We began by clearing the canvas—removing the old shower surround, outdated valve, and bulky glass doors. With everything out, we were able to start fresh and build a space centered on both function and comfort.

The walls were prepped with moisture-resistant greenboard, and we installed sturdy backing in all the right places for future grab bar support. At the heart of the transformation was a sleek, barrier-free composite shower pan—slip-resistant and easy to enter, it set the tone for the entire space. To enhance both form and function, we relocated the drain where needed and surrounded the shower in a warm travertine-colored finish, perfectly sealing every joint for a watertight, clean look.

A new valve and dual shower system were added, offering both a standard shower head and a handheld wand for extra flexibility. To support safe and confident movement, we installed a stylish ADA-compliant grab bar in chrome, blending seamlessly into the design.

To ensure water stays where it should, a collapsible threshold was added at the entrance of the shower—smart, subtle, and effective. And for that final polished touch, a curved chrome shower rod with a weighted curtain was installed, along with a clip to keep the curtain snug to the wet side wall.

This remodel proves that accessibility can be beautiful, and that a barrier-free shower can feel like a spa-worthy upgrade. It’s not just a safer bathroom—it’s a space made to be enjoyed every day, by everyone.
